Description of Skype

Skype keeps the world talking. Say "hello" with an instant message, voice call, or video call, no matter what device they use Skype on. Chat with the new Bing on Skype and get AI-powered answers, recommendations, and inspiration. Skype is available on phones, tablets, PCs, and Macs.

 

• Video calls: Don't just hear compliments, see them! Get together with 1 or 49 of your friends and family on an HD video call. Watch everyone smile and cry as you tell them "Wow!

• Chat: Reach people instantly. Message your friends, grab someone's attention with an @ mention, or create a group chat to plan a family reunion.

• Bing on Skype: Chat with the new Bing in your one-on-one and group chats to get AI-powered responses in the context of your conversation. Ask for recommendations to help build projects together, and get inspired and have fun by asking Bing for ideas.

• Share: Send photos and videos with your family and friends. Save shared photos and videos to your camera roll. Share your screen to make travel plans with friends or present designs to your team.

• Voice calls: camera shy? Voice call to anyone in the world on Skype. You can also make calls to mobiles and landlines at reduced rates.

• Express yourself: Liven up conversations with emoticons, GIFs, stickers, and photos from your device or from the web.

Access permits:

All permissions are optional and require consent (you can continue to use Skype without granting these permissions, but some features may not be available).

 

• Contacts: Skype can sync and upload your device's contacts to Microsoft servers so you can easily find and communicate with your contacts who already use Skype.

Microphone: A microphone is required to listen to you during audio or video calls or to record your audio messages.

• Camera: A camera is needed to allow people to see you during video calls or to be able to take photos or videos when using Skype.

• Location: You can share your location with other users or use your location to help find relevant places near you.

• Photo Library: Storage is required to be able to store photos or share your photos with others with whom you can chat.

• Notifications – Notifications let users know when messages or calls are received even when Skype is not actively being used.

• Siri – This allows Siri to make calls on Skype.

• Calendar: Calendar access is for scheduling calls and adding them to the calendar.

Motion usage: Motion usage is used so that Skype can detect when you rotate your device so that Skype can aim the camera correctly.
